An online training programme for educators’ professional development on SEL
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults build competencies to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for self and others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
SEL Shala is an all-encompassing programme for educators’ professional development. The intention is to create an immersive experience and a space for deeper self-reflection for educators and educational institutions.
The SEL Framework
Apni Shala’s SEL framework is designed upon the CASEL model offered by Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning, USA, keeping the promotive and preventive Mental Health approach at center. To make it most relevant to the children of India, the framework is informed by Narrative Ideas, Mindfulness, Diversity & Inclusion and Constructivist Learning Theory
Our SEL Framework:
How will SEL Shala 2020 work?
SEL Shala is an 8-day online training programme for anyone who works with children to build a deeper understanding of their own social-emotional competencies, and understand how to integrate SEL into educational and other learning processes.
Through a variety of experiences such as expressive writing, poetry, pair-share protocols, small group discussions, audio-visuals, art, and research, SEL Shala enables participants to dig deeper into social-emotional practices of self, children and the organisations they are part of. They also get to explore resources such as framework documents, research materials, SEL activities, and lesson plans to further bring it into their practice.
4 Focus Areas / Theme to choose from
SEL for Self
Each educator needs to have learning and growth opportunities. They look within oneself and discovering areas of psycho-social competencies in one self.
SEL in Classrooms
Educators will learn to integrate simple games and circle time activities into their classrooms. Age-appropriateness and time availability will be taken into consideration.
Educator as a Facilitator
This programme creates a shift of mindset from educator to facilitator, arising from an active reflection into one’s own practices as teachers.
Provide holistic SEL opportunities to all children in the school based on the CASEL framework.
